DESCRIPTION:SGF sektion Grundvatten frukostwebbinarium\nGroundwater contro
l for construction\n\nFöredragshållare: Dr Martin Preene\, Dewatering S
pecialist\, Preene Groundwater Consulting\n\nGroundwater is a common prob
lem in excavations associatedwith basements\, foundations and tunnels. If
not adequately controlledand managed during construction\, groundwater c
an cause a range ofgeotechnical problems\, including running sands\, exce
ssive ground loss\,base heave and collapse of excavations\, resulting in
additional costsand time delays. This presentation provides a background
to the morecommonly used methods of groundwater control and dewatering\,
andincludes a review of the techniques used for groundwater control bypum
ping (sump pumping\, wellpoints\, deep wells\, ejector wells) and forgrou
ndwater control by exclusion (cut-off walls\, grouting\, artificialground
freezing). Particular applications and challenges of groundwatercontrol
are discussed.\n\nSpeaker biography\nDr Martin Preene is a civil engineer
with 35 years’experience of dewatering and groundwater control with co
ntractors andconsultants worldwide and has worked extensively on major tu
nnelprojects in the construction and mining sectors. He widely published
inthe field of groundwater engineering and is co-author of the textbookGr
