2011 Helical Foundations & Tiebacks Seminar

"Innovative Foundations for Fuel and Energy Production"

March 17, 2011

Immediately Following ASCE GEO-FRONTIERS. Dallas, TX

DFI's Helical Foundations & Tiebacks Committee is planning a seminar on the proper design, application and installation of Helical Foundations and Helical Tiebacks.  The suggested focus of next year's seminar will be "innovative foundations for fuel and energy production".  As usual, topics of specific local interest such as presentations on local design practices and case histories for projects in and around the Dallas, Texas area are highly encouraged.

Presentation proposals are solicited on the following topics relating to Helical Foundations and Helical Tiebacks:

Ø  Case studies on the design and use of helical foundation systems and helical tiebacks on projects of special interest in today's economy such as pipelines, solar panels, wind energy, and natural gas production.

Ø  Helical pile and helical tie-back performance studies such as comparing finite element analysis to load test results

Ø  History and theoretical background of helical foundation systems

Ø  Relationship between design, construction, and equipment used on a project

Ø  Quality control and inspection

Ø  New processes, devices, and innovations

Ø  Practice-oriented research

Parties interested in being included in the seminar presentation program should submit an abstract or summary approximately 250 words in length describing the subject matter of their presentation.  The due date for abstracts is October 11, 2010.  Acceptance of abstracts is scheduled for November 17, 2010.  Abstracts should be sent to Helical Foundations & Tiebacks Seminar Committee c/o DFI Headquarters to: kcriqui@dfi.org.

All authors of accepted abstracts will be required to commit to presenting their topic at the seminar and will be required to submit a paper OR PowerPoint presentation handout by February 1, 2011.
